All Groups for the League of Legends World Championship 2022

The League of Legends World Championship, better known as LoL Worlds or simply Worlds, is by far the most prestigious event in this esport. Its first edition took place in 2011 and since then, year after year, Riot Games organized an epic tournament to celebrate the best teams in the world and give them a chance to earn millions of dollars.

For LoL enthusiasts, Worlds 2022 will be a great opportunity to watch spectacular matches between the best League of Legends teams on the planet. It will also be a chance to bet on LoL and then enjoy the action live, on Twitch.

Worlds 2022 Details

Worlds 2022 takes place between September 29 and November 5. A total of 4 different locations will be used and the Group Stage will be held in the usual format, Double Round Robin.

This means that you will get plenty of chances to bet on your favorite teams. You will also be able to follow the action live, because the matches will be played in sequential order.

If you’re used to other esports, where multiple matches are played simultaneously, you’ll be pleased to learn that Riot prefers to stretch out the world tournament over many weeks and give the fans plenty of time to enjoy all the action.

The Group Stage of Worlds 2022 takes place between October 7 – 10 and between October 13 – 16. A total of 12 of the 16 participants are already known.

Group Stage Predictions

This is what’s likely to happen in each of the 4 groups of LoL Worlds 2022:

Group A

The battle in Group A will take place between all 4 teams, provided of course that the 4th team that joins after the Play-In stages is one of the stronger ones. Right now, the group looks like this:

  • Cloud9
  • EDward Gaming
  • T1
  • ?

T1 and EDward Gaming are very strong, but Cloud9 aren’t weak either. After all, they wouldn’t have won LCS Summer otherwise. Plus they have two South Korean players on their roster, which means they fully understand the tactics and mindset of the best teams in the world.

It will be interesting to see who else will join this group after the first and second Play-In stages. T1 looks unbeatable but perhaps EDward Gaming could be bested by either C9 or the 4th team in the group. The only problem is that most of EDG’s 2022 roster is identical to that of 2021. And let’s not forget that EDG’s 2021 roster won Worlds last year.

All things considered, T1 and EDG seem almost unbeatable. It would take huge mistakes on their part and brilliant moves on their opponents’ part to get at least one of them eliminated from Worlds 2022 at the end of the Group Stage.

Group B

Group B will probably be the toughest of the tournament. Every single team in this group is really strong and whoever joins last has almost no hope to qualify for the Playoffs.

  • JDG
  • G2 Esports
  • DAMWON Gaming
  • ?

JDG are the winners of LPL Summer 2022, so their strength is unquestionable. The team they defeated in the Grand Final was Top Esports. Even though none of JDG’s players have won Worlds before, their determination is obvious and will likely carry them far. The only problem is that to get a top result at Worlds 2022, they’ll need to survive Group B. And that’s going to be really hard to accomplish.

G2 Esports are Europe’s brightest star at this edition of Worlds. Even though they lost the Grand Final of LEC Summer quite badly against Rogue (0 – 3), their experience and roster are solid enough to give them an excellent chance against the other opponents in this group. If they survive this trial, they will likely finish in the top 4 at the very least.

DAMWON Gaming have three former Worlds champions on their roster. On paper, the team’s results in 2022 have not been great: 3rd place in LCK Spring and 4th place in LCK Summer. But both times, they lost a close match (2 – 3) against one of the two best teams in South Korea: T1 and Gen.G Esports. Because of that, DAMWON should be regarded as a strong team in this group.

Group C

Group C of Worlds 2022 looks like this:

  • GAM Esports
  • Rogue
  • Top Esports
  • ?

The winners should be Rogue and Top Esports. Both teams are far stronger than the other two competitors regardless of who joins last. Top Esports are one of the strongest teams in China while Rogue just won the Grand Final of LEC Summer 2022 by defeating G2 Esports without losing a single game. Odoamne is likely to finally get a good result at Worlds. His previous top performance at the tournament came in 2016. Back then, he was playing for H2K and he finished 3rd – 4th.

GAM Esports are from Vietnam and despite being strong regionally, they have almost no chance of upsetting the top competitors at an event like this.

Group D

In Group D of Worlds 2022, the situation is very clear and the results will likely be identical to what the statistics indicate.

  • 100 Thieves
  • CTBC Flying Oyster
  • Gen.G Esports
  • ?

Gen.G Esports is almost guaranteed to finish 1st with a perfect record, while 100 Thieves should, in principle, finish 2nd. The only thing that gives analysts doubts about their chances is the fact that they’re a North American team.

Historically, NA teams have done poorly at Worlds, so the 4th team in the group might steal their Playoffs spot, if they’re from China or South Korea.

The Taiwanese competitor, CTBC Flying Oyster, doesn’t stand much of a chance against the other teams. The region in which CTBC play is not developed enough to simulate an international tournament like Worlds. But who knows? Maybe they’ll surprise all of us with some spectacular victories.
